What we ask for, and why.

Every permission has a clear purpose. We don't ask for anything we don't actively use.

Photos — via the system picker

The app opens your system photo picker (Apple's on iOS, Android's Photo Picker), so it receives only the single item you select. It never requests full-library ("all photos") access and can't browse the rest of your gallery.

Save to Photos

Requested only if you choose to save an optimized export back to your camera roll. Skip it and you can still share straight from the app.

No camera, contacts, mic or location

None of these are ever requested. The app has no reason to touch them, so it doesn't.

No network needed to optimize

Processing runs fully offline. There's no account to create, and the core app ships with no tracking or analytics SDK.

Frequently asked.

Does it bypass WhatsApp's compression?

No — and any app that claims to is misleading you. WhatsApp always re-encodes Status media. Upload HD Status prepares your file so that re-encode has as little as possible left to degrade: real HD resolution, a bitrate sized just under WhatsApp's cap, and clean SDR colour.

Are my photos or videos uploaded anywhere?

Never. All inspection and optimization happen on your device. There's no server and no account, and nothing leaves your device unless you choose to share it.

Why does my Status still look a little soft sometimes?

Because WhatsApp gets the final say — it re-compresses every Status. The before/after shows our export, which is the sharpest starting point we can hand it, but the posted result is WhatsApp's. The in-app HD-forward tip gets you closer still.

What is the HD-forward method?

Send the optimized file to yourself in a WhatsApp chat with the HD toggle on, then forward that message to My Status. Forwarding an already-uploaded HD file often preserves more detail than posting from the gallery. The result screen walks you through it.

Does it work with WhatsApp Business?

Yes. The system share sheet posts to WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business the same way — pick whichever you use when you share.

Can it handle long videos?

Yes. Clips over the Status time limit are exported as evenly-sized parts (30/60/90 s), numbered 1of3, 2of3… so you can post a whole video across several sequential Statuses.

Does it change my original photos or videos?

No. Originals are never modified or moved. Exports are separate files, and the optional recent-exports list is local-only and auto-clears after 14 days.

Is it really free — and is it affiliated with WhatsApp?
